Toyota announces major expansion at its Georgetown, Kentucky plant

GEORGETOWN — Toyota confirmed plans this week to make a substantial investment in its Georgetown manufacturing complex, the largest Toyota plant outside Japan, as the company accelerates its shift toward electric and hybrid vehicles.

The expansion is expected to add hundreds of new jobs while preserving the existing workforce during the transition.

State officials welcomed the announcement, calling it a vote of confidence in Kentucky's manufacturing base and its pool of skilled workers.
